The State of Our Union

Tuesday, February 5th, the President of the United States will address a joint session of the United States Congress. He will give the ‘State of the Union.’ In this address, the President will include a budget message, an economic report, as well as an outline of his legislative agenda. However, this is far from the true ‘State of our Union.’

We are living in an unparalleled time of spiritual warfare, where there is both unprecedented opportunity for Kingdom advancement and renewal; yet there is also great risk for our nation to slide further into spiritual decline.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo signs Reproductive Health Act into law.

Last week, we witnessed the unconscionable abortion law passed in New York, where the legislature cheered the slaughter of the next generation, as if it were their favorite sports team winning a championship game! Within days, Virginia announced legislation to follow the same course. Thankfully, it was defeated.  On the other hand, Alabama, Iowa, Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee and others are taking opposite action, by attempting to pass “Heartbeat Bills,” which would drastically reduce the number of abortions.

Our nation is torn;our children are suffering; our immigration system is broken; and most tragically there seems to be no path forward

“But God hasn’t moved to the mountains;  His holy address hasn’t changed. He’s in charge, as always, His eyes taking everything in, His eyelids unblinking, examining    inside and out, not missing a thing”

Psalm 11:4-5, The Message

I’m reminded of the story about the servant of Elisha.  The King of Aram sent his armies to Dothan to capture God’s man.  Elisha’s servant woke one morning and went outside to find he was facing defeat and imminent destruction. As he looked at the enemies’ armies, with horses and chariots surrounding their city, his heart filled with fear.  Then, the great prophet Elisha prayed that God would open his eyes to see BEYOND what is visible.  The servant immediately saw the armies of God and chariots of fire surrounding Elisha. I can hear Elisha’s statement ringing true even today, ‘Those who are with US are more than those who are with THEM (2 Kings 6:16)!’

The Church is waking up, and it may look like we’re surrounded by the enemy, but God has surrounded us and we will walk in victory!

Join me in praying for our nation, it’s renewal, and God to bring strength – HIS strength – to our Union. Think of this… as the President stands to give his address, the words ‘In God we Trust’ are inscribed on the mantle above his head; the motto from our Great Seal of the United States ‘E Pluribus Unum’ – ‘Out of Many, One’ is written on the ceiling above the divided audience; and looking over the crowd – face-to-face with the President – is a statue of the great lawgiver Moses – representing God’s law above ours!  Let’s believe for renewal and reconciliation! Let Your Kingdom come, Lord!

PRAY THIS PRAYER WITH ME…

Jesus, You are on the Throne and watching over Your people and Your world! Bring healing to our divided country!  Holy Spirit, we cover every leader and person of influence who are making decisions about the future of our nation.  Give them Your heart, Your wisdom, Your vision!

Cause the armies of the Lord to defeat the plan of the wicked! Break the spirit of murder, division, and hate! Release the love of the Father and His righteousness.  We pray for our President, Congress, and Supreme Court Justices. Let justice and righteousness – which are the foundations of Your Throne – be the rule in our nation (Psalm 89:14)!  Cause love and faithfulness to prevail!

For Your Name and Your Kingdom’s sake, renew our land!
In Jesus’ Name!

Together, we are moving mountains through prayer! Thank you for standing with us, fighting together, pushing back darkness, and releasing the Kingdom!  Let me encourage you this Tuesday to ‘WATCH & PRAY (Matt 26:41).’  Watch the State of the Union address, and WHILE YOURE WATCHING, pray and intercede for our nation.
