Each week we pray for our nation, its people, and the concerns and opportunities for renewal as they unfold. Thank you for taking time every week to unite with us in this significant task.  I’m confident we will reap the harvest of our prayer and faith if we don’t get weary (Gal. 6:9)!’

Will you pause right now, and the rest of this week, to join me in a critical request with national concern?

Millions of people in the Carolinas and Virginia are either on the move or hunkering down as Hurricane Florence heads for the region, where it is expected to make landfall by Friday with winds of 140 miles per hour.

The Category 4 hurricane could generate a huge storm surge and bring as much as 30 inches of rain, which could cause “catastrophic flash flooding,” the authorities said. Now, there’s potential for it to slow, turn, and bring greater water devastation than originally predicted.

Join me in praying specifically…

  •  Florence to weaken and its impact be minimized and contained

  • Safe and complete evacuations in all areas to be affected

  •  Emergency preparedness and first responders to be fully equipped, graced, and effective

 Let’s unite in this prayer!

Father, we pray for You to move in this situation!  We command that Florence weaken and her disaster be contained! Jesus, You command the winds and waves – speak to this storm and prevent it from the impact some are predicting.

Lord, we pray for those preparing for the landfall of Hurricane Florence. Help those who are already vulnerable. Jesus, we pray for those living paycheck to paycheck for whom days without work or purchasing supplies is a real hardship and no mere inconvenience. Holy Spirit, we ask particular care for our brothers and sisters who are sick, elderly or disabled. Lift up friends, neighbors and Good Samaritans to step in and step up for your children already on the margins of our society.

Jesus, we ask Your protection and strength for all those in positions of leadership making difficult decisions and for the many mobilized helpers who will go wherever they are sent. We give thanks for all those who put their lives on the line to save others.

We trust that You, Lord of all Creation, will be with us, our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. May our reliance on You compel us to help one another, not only in the face of Hurricane Florence, but daily and always.

In Jesus’ Name! Amen.

I believe, when we pray, God responds.  Continue to persist in prayer over the next couple of days, and let’s ask God for a miracle.  I’m so glad He has united us as a band of prayer warriors to release His heart in our nation and world!  Thank you!
