This past Monday will go down as a historic day as President Donald Trump announced Judge Brett Kavanaugh as his nominee for the Supreme Court to replace retiring Justice Anthony Kennedy.
Kavanaugh is a 53-year-old graduate of Yale Law School and has served in Washington for many years in multiple roles. He served as an aide to former president George W. Bush and has served on the D.C. Circuit Court since 2006, implementing a strong sense of conservative values. He was even an aide to Kennedy, the Justice he will be replacing if confirmed in the Court. He is married to his wife, Ashley, a former personal secretary for Bush, and they have two daughters.
The significance of President Trump’s nomination of Kavanaugh for the next Supreme Court Justice cannot be overstated. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) said on the Senate floor Tuesday that if Kavanaugh joins the Court, the Supreme Court will be more conservative than it has been in 80-90 years.
Now that Judge Kavanaugh is the nominee, the next step in the process is for Kavanaugh to be confirmed by the Senate. He will need 51 of the 100 Senate votes to take his place in the Supreme Court. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) has said the Senate will vote on Kavanaugh’s confirmation hearing sometime this fall before the mid-term elections, but did not give an exact date.
The significance of President Trump’s nomination of Judge Kavanaugh for the next Supreme Court Justice cannot be overstated.
We have seen the importance this nomination has now and for future generations. Now, let us pray for the following things:
- A swift confirmation that finalizes the addition of Judge Brett Kavanaugh as a Supreme Court Justice
- For wisdom for Judge Kavanaugh as he steps into this new role in his life and career if confirmed
- For a renewed sense of biblical principles to grip the hearts of our leaders so they turn to You
Will you join me now in prayer this week?
Father in heaven, we thank You for the significant undertakings occurring in Washington this week.
We know it is by Your sovereign plan that our leaders are in place. You have placed them in their positions of authority out of Your own will and purpose.
We ask that You grant them wisdom, discernment, and understanding in all of the decisions they make
We pray that our leaders and fellow citizens of this nation humbly bow and turn their eyes to You in all that they do.
Thank You for the work being done on Capitol Hill.
We pray for our US Senate, Judge Kavanaugh, and all involved in the confirmation process.
May You continue to pour out Your blessings on them and our great nation.
Lord if it is Your will, we ask that You grant Judge Kavanaugh a seat on the Supreme Court.
We pray that whoever the next Justice is, they would uphold biblical ideals and traditions in their decision-making.
We praise and thank You Lord for your continued faithfulness to us.
In Jesus’ name Amen!
Thank you for your continued prayer for our nation. These are exciting times as we can see the Lord working here on Capitol Hill in the Supreme Court. I’m glad God has given us a place here. We’re in this together!
