This weekend, dads everywhere will be celebrated for the important, powerful role they play in the lives of their families. Of all my thousands of positive memories of my late father, one that stands out is his consistently positive affirmation of me as his son. I have no idea where I would be, or what I would be, without his loving support.
Our nation is in crisis and many of our current challenges can be traced back to the breakdown of the family – namely the epidemic of fatherlessness. We may not be able to change the past, but I believe that with faith, prayer, and action, we can strengthen, support, and work for renewal in the family.
As we approach Father’s Day, I think of all of those who didn’t have the support I received from my dad. Many people were raised without a father, or even worse, had an abusive father. This weekend, let’s unite in prayer for the men of our nation. Let’s pray for fathers to be strengthened and encouraged, for the family to be united, and for our nation to be renewed as a result.
I also want us to unite in prayer for those who bear the pain of fatherlessness and abuse. May they look to the only perfect father, our Heavenly Father. He loves with a perfect love. He never leaves us or forgets us.
Psalms 68:5-6 reminds us, “Father to the fatherless, defender of the widows – this is God, whose dwelling is holy. God places the lonely in families; he sets the prisoners free and gives them joy.”
Please join me in prayer this week for fathers and the fatherless!
Father God, how amazing it is that we get to call You our Father!
We thank You for your faithfulness to us in spite of our unfaithfulness to You. You truly are a good, good Father!
Today, we lift up dads everywhere. We thank you for the important role they play in their homes, and we continue to pray that they would turn their eyes to You in all that they do. May they love You even more than they love their families.
We also pray for the fatherless — those who had an absent or abusive father. Cause them to turn to You and be renewed. Turn the hearts of the fathers to their children and the hearts of children to their fathers (Mal. 4:6). May the fatherless be reminded of Your constant love, regardless of their circumstances.
Bless our nation, as You bless our nation's fathers! Renew our land, as you renew the hearts of men! Raise up a generation of leaders who represent You in their homes, workplace, and communities! For Your Glory and Your Kingdom's sake, release the spirit of adoption and sonship upon the men of our land!
In Your Holy Name we pray, Amen!
I pray you have a wonderful Father’s Day weekend – full of love, joy and peace from our Good Father! As we lift up the families of our nation, I believe that God will strengthen fathers and renew our land.
